Né en Chine en 1936, dans la province de Shandong, Han Meilin poursuit avec passion une carrière de touche-à-tout depuis plus de 60 ans. Cet artiste complet enseigne aussi la peinture, la calligraphie, la céramique et l’histoire des arts visuels. Depuis ses débuts, Han Meilin puise son inspiration dans les traditions et le folklore de son pays, qui lui rend d’ailleurs hommage à travers le « Han Meilin Day » institué depuis le 21 décembre 2013. Père des mascottes des Jeux olympiques de Beijing en 2008, Han Meilin a exposé ses calligraphies et ses sculptures dans le monde entier. Il a aussi été distingué à de très nombreuses reprises, notamment en tant qu’« artiste de la Paix » en 2015 par l’Unesco, et devint, par cette occasion, le premier artiste chinois à recevoir cet honneur.

Born in China in 1936 in the province of Shandong, Han Meilin is a true all-rounder who has pursued his vocation with passion for more than 60 years. This complete master artist also teaches painting, calligraphy, ceramics and the history of the visual arts. From the very beginning, Han Meilin has drawn his inspiration from the traditions and folklore of his native country, which pays homage to him on “Han Meilin Day”, inaugurated on 21 December 2013. Creator of the mascots for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Han Meilin has exhibited his calligraphy and sculpture all over the world. He has received multiple honours, including being appointed a UNESCO Artist of Peace in 2015, becoming the first Chinese artist to get this recognition. HAN MEILIN & LALIQUE

After years of development and all that attends such a period of waiting, Han Meilin’s crystal pandas saw the light of day thanks to the savoir-faire of Lalique’s master craftsmen. Yuan-Yuan and Meng-Meng, the pandas created in the Lalique crystal works, a seated male and a prone female, were baptized in honour of Yuan-Meng, the first panda to be born in France, at Beauval Zoo in 2017. The two new-borns are products of Han Meilin’s fertile imagination. Betraying a certain innocence, the Chinese artist marvels at the world through the eyes of a child.

Au terme d’années de développement, et avec toute l’affection que réclame une telle attente, les ursidés en cristal de Han Meilin ont vu le jour grâce au savoir-faire des meilleurs ouvriers de France de la maison Lalique. Baptisés en hommage à « Yuan-Meng », le premier panda né en France, en 2017, au zoo de Beauval, « Yuan-Yuan » et « Meng-Meng », les deux nouveau-nés de la cristallerie Lalique, un mâle assis et une femelle couchée, sont tout droit sortis de l’imaginaire fertile de Han Meilin. Avec une certaine innocence, l’artiste chinois pose le regard émerveillé d’un enfant sur le monde.
